Consumer Reports is one of the auto industry’s most trusted critics. His opinion means a lot to many buyers. As a result, obtaining the “recommended” label is a significant advantage for car manufacturers. One automaker, Acura, has earned this label for all of its 2022 SUVs. Consumer Reports recommends both the 2022 Acura MDX and the 2022 Acura RDX.
Consumer Reports recommends the 2022 Acura RDX
First, in the crowded luxury compact SUV segment, Consumer Reports recommends the 2022 Acura RDX. Out of 22 models evaluated, the RDX placed 12th overall. Although this is the lowest ranked model out of all the recommended options, it is still one of the best. Plus, CR has plenty of reasons to love the RDX, but most come from driving experience. However, for $40,600, it’s one of the more affordable luxury models available.
For the CR, the RDX’s strengths center on the ride. For example, handling, acceleration and stopping distances are all excellent. These three attributes combined create a wonderful driving experience. Plus, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a high-quality luxury compact SUV. Then the interior is just as impressive. CR says the front seats are especially comfortable and the interior fit and finish is very good. In other words, the 2022 Acura RDX is very well put together.
Consumer Reports recommends the 2022 Acura MDX
Next, in the equally crowded luxury midsize SUV segment, Consumer Reports recommends the 2022 Acura MDX. Out of 22 models evaluated, the MDX placed sixth overall. This puts it ahead of other high-quality recommended models like the Porsche Cayenne and GMC Acadia. One of the most impressive things about the MDX is its reliability. According to CR, previous owners have experienced very few uncommon maintenance issues with their Acura midsize SUV.
Along with almost zero trouble spots mechanically, the MDX is exceptionally comfortable. The comfort, fit and finish of the front and rear seats are CR’s review highlights. In short, driver and passengers will love spending time inside the MDX. Finally, the powertrain is very smooth, providing a luxurious ride. Two engine variants are available, a 3.0-liter V6 turbo and a 3.5-liter V6.
There are only 2 Acura SUVs

Although Consumer Reports recommends every Acura SUV, there are only two. CR classifies luxury SUVs into four segments: entry-level, compact, midsize and large. However, Acura only offers offerings in the compact and midsize segments. For now, the entry-level and full-luxury SUV categories are void of any Acura models. This is different from many other automakers who often have vehicles in at least three of these classes.
Some automakers like Lexus have multiple models in a single segment. For example, three of the four most recommended midsize SUVs come from Lexus. The RX L, GX and RX only trail the BMW X5 for best midsize luxury SUV.
Every Acura SUV is recommended
In conclusion, every Acura SUV is recommended by Consumer Reports. The 2022 Acura RDX is one of the best options available in the luxury compact SUV segment. Additionally, the 2022 Acura MDX is one of the highest-ranked models in the mid-luxury category. Whichever model you choose, Acura’s lineup of SUVs is excellent. It’s not every day that an automaker sees all of its SUVs receive the coveted “recommended” label from Consumer Reports.
