2 excellent 2022 full-size luxury SUVs that consumers predict owners will love

When Consumer Reports rates a new ride, sometimes the car-buying public doesn’t necessarily agree with the scores and ratings. After all, people have different experiences with their cars. However, when it comes to predicting ownership satisfaction, Consumer Reports’ methods tend to be reasonably accurate with many of the models it examines.

So before you buy a new luxury SUV, you’ll want to look at the two contenders at the top of the planned ownership list. These two full-size luxury SUVs take the cake, earning official endorsements from Consumer Reports and existing vehicle owners, meaning you’re sure to love everything they offer.

Why You Should Value Predicted Owner Satisfaction Scores

There’s no shortage of industry reviews for every new or used vehicle you might want to research. For the most part, you know to take these scores and rankings with a grain of salt. But there’s a vehicle valuation you should always consider, especially if you’re considering buying a luxury SUV.

Consumer Reports sends out surveys to owners of existing new cars every year, asking them for feedback on their experiences, not just driving the vehicle, but also when it comes to ownership, maintenance and cost. So when those answers match Consumer Reports’ overall ratings, it’s a point-in-time assessment you can take to the bank.

The Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction Category is one of several evaluation points the team uses to generate overall scores. But these particular rankings are rooted in the actual responses of specific vehicle owners sharing their feelings.

Consumer Reports surveys ask luxury SUV owners about various aspects of ownership. They ask owners to comment on their impressions of driving experiences, comfort, value and style. The most influential survey question people ask when buying a new car is, “Would you buy this car again?”

BMW’s new X7 is its biggest SUV in the lineup, ready to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Audi Q7. According to Consumer Reports, unlike many others in this segment, the BMW X7 is “worth every penny” of its $84,000 price tag.

It deserves plaudits for driving like you’d expect from a BMW, with its turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. The Consumer Reports team also loves all the classy extras and premium fit and finish.

What may have more weight in your decision to buy a luxury SUV are the responses of BMW X7 owners. Nearly 80% of respondents said they would buy this high-performing product again.

Before you buy, you’ll want to look at the second luxury SUV in this planned ownership hierarchy. The 2022 Lincoln Navigator makes a big impression on the Consumer Reports team. Consumer Reports describes it as a “behemoth,” capable of seating eight passengers and full of all the extras you’d expect with a Lincoln.

It has a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 that generates 411 hp when you fill up on regular fuel. Opting for the premium pump will generate up to 450 hp. Of all the luxury SUVs in this segment, the Lincoln Navigator came in second, with just under 75% of owners sharing that they would definitely buy this SUV again.

Industry critics can have differing opinions, making it difficult to decide which luxury SUV to buy. But when you venture to Consumer Reports, you’ll see reviewers and vehicle owners agree on two models. The sleek 2022 BMW X7 and the larger-than-life 2022 Lincoln Navigator are taking pride of place among consumers and Consumer Reports. And it’s a good sign that if you buy one of these high-end competitors, you’ll probably love your new vehicle.
